A Saint in Figures

Strathmore University has been chosen as the first venue for the Exhibition A Saint in figures; that, from 30th will tour the East Africa geography. The Association Memoria de Alvaro del Portillo -organizers of the Beatification of Bishop Alvaro del Portillo- seeks to highlight the work carried out during his lifetime.

September, the 27th of 2014. Beatification of Álvaro del Portillo. On 5th July 2013 Pope Francis announced with joy that this Spanish bishop was go-
ing to be part of the list of Church’s saints.

Who is this new blessed? Where was he born? What did he achieve? What work did he do? Has he left a mark? And most pertinent of all, why is he a saint?
This exhibition gives information about the life and work of Álvaro del Portillo and it does so in a way that modern man, used to weighing, measuring and counting every reality, can understand it.

But can we weigh love? Measure service, or quantify self-giving to others? Can we grasp the depth of a man’s heart through figures? Can we flesh out a life
just by charting its chronology?

We must especially keep in mind that, behind figures, there are always motives. And these are the reason for the figures; they are the other side of the coin, the truer side. The life of Álvaro del Portillo has motives that explain all these figures.
