Corpus Christi in Strathmore School

Together with the Church and many popes, St. Josemaria always taught that we should use the best of everything we have when it comes to dealing with Jesus present in the Blessed Eucharist. For the feast of the Corpus Christi ("Body and Blood of Christ") this year, Strathmore School did just that: they laid the best they had - including a carpet of flowers.

A carpet of roses for the King of the Universe

It is customary to prepare well for the visit of an important guest. We take special care in the way we clean our houses; we bring out the best linen and cutlery, and in the case of a very important person, we roll out the red carpet!

This year we decided to give Jesus a welcome befitting his status as the King of the Universe. We rolled out a 75-meter petal carpet made from choice roses, many of which were generously donated by the Standard 3 mothers. The carpet bore intricate designs of the school coat of arms and motto and aspirations of adoration to Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. After several days of design work and a whole day of laying the carpet, we were ready for the Grand Walk with Our King.

And so on Thursday, 11th June at 7:45 am, the solemn procession began from the chapel to the stage outside the school library. The Standard Three boys, who only last month received their First Holy Communion, led the procession, resplendent in their immaculate shashes, only matched by their bright countenances. As Our Lord took his walk on the carpet of roses, He was showered with petals from the balcony that intricately blended with solemn tunes of the school choir.

We spent quality time with Jesus: we walked with him, we listened to him, we adored him and asked him for favours. We told him that we loved the Blessed Virgin Mary, his mother and Our Mother and most importantly, we received a Solemn Blessing from him.

We accompanied Our Lord back to the chapel on his carpet of roses, imploring him to stay with us for eternity. And so ended our date with the King of the Universe on a carpet of roses.
